Nancy’s Retreat

Nancy’s Retreat at Lyndhurst is a farmstay set high in the hills of Okains Bay, 2.5 km from the Summit Road – look for the red roofs and rustic “Lyndhurst” sign on the right.
The homestead dates back to early 1870’s and has been a major restoration project for us. “Nancy’s” is named after Nancy Moore the last of the original Moore family who arrived in Okains Bay around 1851 and were the original settlers of this property in 1876. Nancy’s is a separate self contained unit with an antique brass bed and feather duvet, kitchenette, bathroom, TV (free to air) and DVD player.

More info about Nancy's Retreat

Nancy's sleeps two only.
It has west facing French doors and a private east facing deck overlooking a waterfall and fernery.
Breakfast is inclusive and good coffee is our speciality.
Wi-Fi is available for use in our house.

Our beef fattening property consists of 360 acres and includes a Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust block of native bush which is only a short stroll away.  We have a variety of native birds in our tranquil garden including kereru, bellbirds, fantails, pukeko and wax eyes.

There is a small general store in the bay which cooks blue cod and chips on Friday nights; this will be available more frequently over the summer period. A pub and a bistro are located in Duvauchelle - 10 minutes away and the Hilltop Cafe and Bar is 15 minutes away, back along the Summit Road.

Akaroa has a wide range of eateries, a cinema, museum, a cooking school, mini golf, the world famous Giant’s House and a good selection of shops.  Akaroa waters are home to the rarest and smallest dolphin – the Hectors Dolphin and swimming with the dolphins experience is offered by two companies, there are also excellent penguin colony, seal colony and farm tours available as well as nature and dolphin cruises.  There is an 18 hole golf course at Duvauchelle.

Okains Bay beach itself is spectacular and is a safe swimming spot either in the Pacific Ocean or on the Estuary.  It also has a very popular beach side camping ground administered by the Christchurch City Council.  It is popular with kayakers and further upstream the whitebait swarm up in season as they head for their breeding ground.

Okains Bay Maori and Colonial Museum - the best display of Maori artefacts in the South Island is 5 minutes away and well worth a visit. There is also a lovely short walk to Little Okains Bay only half an hour away.
