The Akaroa Croquet Club is located in the sports area adjacent to the tennis courts, and on the seaward side of the car park behind the Grand Hotel. Our actual address is 48 Rue Jollie although we do not have a number or other identifying street sign.

Facilities:  The club comprises of two full size croquet lawns, has its own club rooms and welcomes visitors from other croquet clubs either within New Zealand or from overseas.

Golf croquet which is a much more simpler game, takes about 20 minutes to play is very interactive and easy to pick up. This is what the club offers on a casual basis to visitors of two or more as it needs 4 people to play. A lot of the Christchurch clubs have just golf croquet members days and playing times.

For visitors we offer playing equipment and have a green fee charge of $8.00 for a full days play.  Golf croquet is by arrangement about $3…$5 depending on how long they play.

Playing Days: The club plays on a regular basis every   Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday at 1.15pm with play commencing at 1.30pm. Games are approx 3 hours with afternoon tea provided.

The playing season is from the first week in September until about the middle of April. In the winter period indoor croquet is played every Saturday at 1.30pm.  This is played on the carpet with smaller hoops and balls and mallets. All aspects of the game are the same as full outdoor croquet so it is a competitive game, and can teach the techniques as well.

Contacts: The following are the contacts for the club: Kath Robertson  Ph 304 7551.

The club has been here in Akaroa for nearly 100 years, we celebrate our centenary in December 2009.

As with all sports clubs the membership fluctuates and has declined to just 8 playing members at the moment so we are not able to offer such a wide range of services as would be expected from a much bigger club. However what we lack in numbers we have enthusiasm and the club enters teams in the interclub competition and competes in many of the social days play at other clubs in the city, There is approx 15 croquet clubs in the Canterbury area.

There is a national body in Wellington and they have a web site Croquet NZ. Org. which will give you some idea of how the sport is organized .
