The Akaroa Volunteer Fire Brigade has been protecting the Akaroa and Bays communities since 1877. Staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers, they are on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies, including fires, accidents, and medical assists. When you hear their sirens in Akaroa, it signals a callout—not a tsunami or hazard warning. If driving, safely pull over for their vehicles.
The current station, opened in 1982, houses three appliances: a pump tender, rescue tender, and water tanker. Local employers’ support is vital, allowing members to attend callouts. They are committed to safeguarding lives and property, responding quickly and efficiently to all emergencies.
Dial 111 and ask for FIRE.
