Fishermans Bay Garden is just 20 minutes drive from the historic French settlement of Akaroa and with the surrounding farm includes more than 100 hectares of regenerating protected native forest in two coastal valleys.
The garden has a strong focus on New Zealand native evergreen trees and shrubs providing the texture and structure of the garden with a wide range of both native and non native plants creating a garden of its place against a beautiful backdrop of the rugged coastline of the Pacific Ocean.
Winding paths over the hilly site lead from large plantings of perennials and grasses to areas dominated by shrubland with grasses and Astelias as well as shady fern walks underneath native trees. Seasonal flowers such as spring flowering Azaleas and Rhododendrons move on to summer and Autumn perennials plantings.
We open for visitors to wander and picnic in the garden up to five days a week from October to April. Our opening days and hours are on our website.
