Lumiere d'Akaroa Light Festival

Brief Description

Akaroa lights up at night! The picturesque and historic Garden of Tane in the heart of Akaroa, will be magically transformed into a glowing wonderland from 6-10pm. Visitors will be invited to follow an intriguing trail of light installations through the garden. Food and drink will be available at the end of the trail.This is a free family focused event. A glow in the dark workshop will be held for the children from 11am-1pm on that day. Free entry!

This is a family focused event. The garden trail will start at the Garden of Tane main entrance and wind through the wooded garden paths. People will be encouraged to park at the Akaroa Area School grounds and walk to the main entrance. The garden will light up from 6-10pm and in various locations along the route light installations by artists and community groups will delight and surprise. The artists installations will have a map with the artists names and a short brief about their installation.

The event will include a workshop for children on the Saturday afternoon using UV paint. This will be run by the Akaroa Community Arts Council with Film Producer John Harding.

Glow in the Dark workshop.

For kids 8 years and over.

Make a glow in the dark costume with John Harding and show it off under the UV lights at the Lumiere d’Akaroa light festival on the night of 18 May 6-10pm.
$10 per child.

The UV things that the children make will glow under special UV lights at night in the UV area.

Some of the Garden’s majestic 140 year old trees will be dramatically spot lit. The lit up garden trial will end in the car park at the top by the cemetery where there will be hot drinks and tasty food for sale and some fire surprises.
