Celebrating 150 Years of The Akaroa Mail
For a century and a half, The Akaroa Mail has been an important part of life on the Peninsula, documenting the people, places and stories that have shaped Akaroa and the Bays. Since its first edition in 1876, the paper has captured everything from community celebrations and local achievements to the everyday moments that make this place unique.

Have You Driven the Summit Road?
One of the most spectacular ways to experience the Akaroa Peninsula is from above, and the Summit Road offers some of the most breathtaking views in the region. Winding its way along the volcanic ridges of Banks Peninsula, the road reveals a constantly changing landscape of dramatic hills, sweeping valleys and sparkling coastal bays.
As you travel along the ridgeline, take time to soak in the incredible views across Akaroa Harbour, with its deep blue waters, historic village and surrounding farmland nestled below. On a clear day, the outlook stretches across the many bays and inlets of the Peninsula, showcasing the unique volcanic landscape that makes this area so special.
